Southern Lion S/Bhd (SLion) is a 50/50 joint venture company between Lam Soon (M) Bhd and LION CORPORATION, Japan. It started its operations in April 1987 in Larkin Industrial Estate, Johor Bahru.

In 1988, Southern Lion launched Bio Zip, our own powder detergent which remains to be one of our strongest brands till today. Other pioneer products are Dobi bar, launched in 1989 and Puteri Emas.

Fresh & White toothpaste commenced in 1993.

In March 1990, Southern Lion became the pioneer manufacturing company to set up a plant in Tebrau Industrial Estate with a land area of 10 acres, outside Johor Bahru.

The newly-built factory houses facilities to produce detergents in the form of powder, liquid, bar and paste. More product lines such as Senang dishwashing paste and Mama Lemon (for Lion sister companies) were produced.

In 1997, Southern Lion expanded our production capacity by building a second drying tower, thus doubling the capacity of our powder detergent.

In 1998, Southern Lion embarked on a new challenge by launching its Personal Care products despite stiff competition from leading players in the market. Shokubutsu Body Shower Foam was launched with 2 variants.

In March 1999, Southern Lion became the first detergent manufacturer to be ISO 9001 certified.

Increasing demands from the market prompted Southern Lion to set up its own gas sulphonation plant in 1999. The newly built plant increased production capacity while maintaining efficient costs. With this, we managed to produce high quality products at an affordable price for our customers.

After the launch of our Personal Care products in 1998, the demand for Shokubutsu Body Shower Foam rose steadily, prompting Southern Lion to set up its own Personal Care production plant. With the new plant set up in 2000, Southern Lion became a key player in the Personal Care segment.

In 2002, Southern Lion celebrated its 15th Anniversary.

Always aware of the importance of preserving our environment, Southern Lion decided that our products must be safe and the manufacturing process does not harm the environment.

In Feb 2003, Southern Lion certified with ISO 14001 standard for environmental-friendliness.

Also in line with producing products of the highest quality, in March 2003 Southern Lion received GMP Certification for its Personal Care Products.

And in Nov 2006, Southern Lion factory is certified Halal as we are aware on the importance of this certification for all our Muslim consumers especially for our Oral Care range of products.
